Description

In the climax of this tale, Jack-in-the-Box catches up with tinker villain Junkman and incapacitates him with a red Electro-Nose. This tale explores the motivations of gadget-based burglars like The Toyman. Why don�t they just make millions as legitimate inventors? Busiek posits that they want a reputation for brilliance even more than they want a quick buck. Anderson doesn't skimp on details; check out the reflection of Jack's face in Junkman's rocket pack in the fourth panel. An inscription on the bottom margin reveals that this page was once owned by 'Olivier.' Junkman's gun looks rather like Han Solo's blaster, which was a modified Mauser WW2 pistol.

I loved...scratch that past tense... I still love the ASTRO CITY series. This is a wonderful Jack-in-the-Box page. Nice pickup!

One of the best single issues of the series. The standalone issues by Waid were often very well crafted morality tale stories. Anderson's action framing is grounded and hard hitting even with the fantastical elements of Astro City.
