DescriptionThis morning, another big piece arrived for me: a proper David Finch commission, done specifically for me.Back at CCPX in 2019, I was lucky enough to meet him & grab a “remark” of a an unmasked, black-costumed Spider-Man. I have a super fun picture that I still sometimes look at, which shows my astonished face having been handed that piece. Fast forward to November 2022, when David was heading to the Paris Manga convention a month later. A shop that had set up his appearance at the show in December, helped me set up a proper full figure commission & then shipped it out to me. Knowing how difficult it can be to get on his list (as he only does commissions for shows), I’m very grateful that this worked out. On the character choice, I had always adored Mike Gowcharan’s battle-damaged Spider-Man & went with the same theme. I deliberately did not want to go with an unmasked version, as David says that that’s not his strong suit and I already had his interpretation of Peter Parker in my first piece from CCPX. “Down, but not out”. I was happily surprised by the level of detail (I mean, it’s Finch, so you’re pretty sure it’ll be hyper-rendered but you never know how a piece will turn out) & the extensive background - supported by great smoke effects. The 11x14 page is almost filled from edge to edge. From some ink brush work to cross-hatching, this piece has been given the full works, which you’d expect from a high-end David Finch piece. Still, it’s darn cool to see. In short, he delivered and went above & beyond. I know the term “cover quality” is used quite a bit, but I can hardly feel any different when admiring this piece in real life. Social/Sharing |

You get the most out of the artists you commission! Finch went to work on an image that is publishable in any manner.
