Description

Convention Rocketeer head sketch by Dave Stevens, 8.5 X 11. Met Dave Stevens, a couple of times and not able to get a sketch from him, I decided a different approach.
Dave Stevens and William Stout would set up next to each other, my guess was to have someone to hang with and watch each other's stuff when needing a RR or lunch break.
I had this Rocketeer sketch with me, I held it in a way so it could be seen while carrying it. My hopes were that Dave would see it and draw a sketch in my book.
William Stout noticed the sketch first and asked to take a look at it. That's when William asked Dave to look at the drawing and said Michael Kaluta drew the Rocketeer. I said to Dave, I asked you to draw me a Rocketeer, but you weren't doing any sketches. Dave looks around, asks for my sketch book and this is the sketch, a keeper.

I read the Rocketeer from the very beginning in PC comics. From the moment I first saw Dave's artwork I became fan of his.
It was several years later, that I read Dave and Michael Kaluta were good friends, I had no idea at the time when I brought that sketch with me to that convention.
