DescriptionThis is the third of six connecting covers masterfully drawn by Chris Brunner and colored by Rico Renzi. I love when these two team up because the result tends to be something magnificent. This cover was published July 12th, 2023. One of my favorite things about Chris' art is he tends to do some wonderful preliminary work, which came with this cover. This DEEP CUTS series tells musical stories across several decades with a different interior artist on each issue. This issue brings us to 1940. This was a fun mystery story with a great upright bass on the cover! Social/Sharing |

The birth of bebop! They gonna rocksteady with more solo improv for a more pseronal kind of self expression Jazz! Pretty key in the history of the artform and no wonder it's in the center of the series and in the center of the connecting covers.

The work on the upright bass is fabulous! The girl and with her magnifying glass is a cute element. I'd like to read this, but I just noticed the TPB won't be out until early May 2024! Sigh...

Just love the face and expression and the strummer! And nice contrast betweem him and the girl character, the former being in grey tones and the latter in straight black and white. Congrats!

All 6 connect? Wow, that's a lot of work for the cover, but it sure pays off. It all looks really nice. As Rubén said, I dig how he handled the upright bass. And how he did the background elements with blue pencil, to finish it a bit, since I guess some art was put in digitally for the final cover? Cool cover!

Chris Brunner knocked this one out of the club. That bassist is obviously feeling it, and the girl looks like a little genius.
Great cover!
