DescriptionWords cannot describe how big a fan I was of Todd McFarlane as a teenager. I hung on every issue he drew from Amazing Spider-Man 321 on so by the time Image kicked off I was fully onboard for the new universe. Spawn put 21 issues and a batman crossover before I graduated high school and I lived for each one. I followed Spawn for most of its first 100 issues but the excitement of Todd's original 15 issue run at a time when comics never felt more relevant to my peer group were magical.Steve Oliff is a major part of that magic. it's my understanding he introduced computer coloring to comics and after spawn 1 it quickly took hold revolutionizing the artform. His importance as an artist and innovator should be celebrated more. I was thrilled to discover even though the final product was digital Steve did hand colored originals of copies of McFarlane line art. This one in particular is spectacular. Todd has yet to sell and original art from his 15 issue run on Spawn. If or when he does I suspect it'll be out of my league so this color guide by Steve Oliff is as close as I can get to caretaking a piece of comic book history of my youth. Social/Sharing |

Steve Oliff is to coloring what Terry Austin is to inking. He is a true legend. Great looking color guide. And what's nice is that it probably cost a tiny fraction of what an original page would cost.

that's a great comparison! oh yeah, can't imagine how high the art would go bit I can almost guarantee I won't be able to afford it 😆
