Description

I attended my first Baltimore Comic Con this year. I'd heard it was a haven of great artists and it lived up to those expectations and then some. I went in with a certain concept of what I would end up taking home but due to certain budgetary constraints and a healthy dose of miscommunication, things went another direction.

I brought several blank covers to this show, and this one I wasn't sure what to do with given that I already own a lovely GA piece but wasn't really interested in putting another character on this. I've loved Doc Shaners art for quite some time, and after day 1 I came up with the idea to have him do a classic, silver age style Green Arrow. This is how Ollie ORIGINALLY looked for quite some time before the 80s era, and is different enough from the piece I already have while representing one of my favorite characters. In hindsight I dont think I could've picked a better artist to do this rendition.

As he made it I talked to him and his wife, telling them about my own artistic endeavors and they are some of the nicest people I met at the con, and our shared loved for Darwyn Cooke and Green Arrow made for a great experience and maybe my new favorite sketch cover in my collection.

Sharp golden age look! The Shaner line is warm to represent a more gentle time of heroes.
