Description

During the waning days of trading cards being popular someone at Skybox came up with a novel idea for a trading card series and I imagine the pitch sounded something like this:

"How about a card set where hot painters do their own characters and put them in various settings. And then we'll have a cd rom game to go with it that'll capitalize on that Gathering Magic thing that Wizards of the Coast puts out. How about we call it "Into the Vortex"? It'll sell millions!"

To say the least, I don't think it sold much at all but it did have such talents at Dave Dorman, Dave McKean, Julie Bell, Brom, and Brian Stelfreeze do the art and that's cool.

I saw this piece pop up during Comic Art Live and kept coming back to it even though it's pretty small. (I usually prefer large art.) I love the texture that Dorman can evoke with the dirty rusty background and the scars all over the character's body.
