DescriptionI am a big Venom fan and collector. This may be an incredibly deep cut piece in Venom lore but one of the most amazing pieces by an iconic artist Simon Bisley. This is a cover recreation of “Venom: Lethal Protector” the trade paperback first print from 1995. This was not a cover used from the Lethal Protector series it collected but was a brand new cover for the trade paperback. There were not a lot of copies printed of this first edition so this image and cover are not widely known which is a shame because this is a stunning piece of art from Simon Bisley. I love the blue used on Venom and the “toxic” greens throughout. The skulls and skeletons of Venom’s victims is just classic 90s. This art could easily be a metal band’s album cover (which could be said of a lot of Bisley’s art). I usually am not a fan of the lizard long tongue on Venom because the Venom symbiote enhances the host and doesn’t have the long tongue. This, however, I make a happy exemption for. The teeth and fangs as he holds a skull is visually captivating. This art I feel is capturing the vicious, animalistic, violent, unrepentant violence within the symbiote. When you stare at this piece of art you can’t help but be enamored by it and the violence. I reached out to Andy (Simon’s rep) and asked if, insanely unlikely, this piece of art was still in his possession and available to be purchased. He politely let me know, of course, it had sold decades ago when the art was released. I asked if Simon may be open to recreating it for me because I absolutely loved this piece. He spoke to Simon who said he was interested because he thought it would be fun to revisit a piece from back in the day. I was incredibly grateful and excited to have this. Thank you both to Andy and Simon for your kindness in making this happen! Social/Sharing |

The creature's den! It is one of the reasons' why the 90's was considered one of the best periods of Bisley art as he pulls these ideas straight out of nightmares! The execution of this recreation is along the same vein as the original. It taps into our deepest fears causing an adrenaline spike.

That is a great call about his art in the 90s! Very well said about tapping into our deepest fears and being straight out of nightmares!

Very cool. Biz marvel art was always so low key. They never promoted it. Nice choice for a recreation
