DescriptionThis spread shows J.H. Williams' mastery of layouts. It was part of a Greek mythology-themed team-up between Batwoman with Wonder Woman, neither of whom appears here. But it looks just fine without them. The final published version digitally added a halter top to Medusa. Most of the page is ink wash, but the large tree in the upper left is rendered in stark black and white. Williams often mixes media styles in this way, sometimes drawing each character in a different style as well. The scene’s most striking element is Williams’ use of the skyscrapers as panel borders along the lower third. Neal Adams did something similar in his time on X-Men, using the segments of Sauron’s pterodactyl-wings to frame panels.
