Ever since I saw Jay's art on Aria I've wanted a good example piece. Over the years there's been some close calls at auctions where the piece for sale was good, but I was either pursuing something else or I wasn't quite feeling it. Then during the fall 2024 Comic Art Live, More Great Art just dumps out a crap ton of amazing covers and I saw this one. I didn't know this cover existed because it wasn't one of the regular ones that went out through distribution, it's a store exclusive cover. And I really like that Jay drew her in her classic Excalibur costume rather than the current costume and shorter hair she had at this time.

Unless you've been living under a rock, Kitty and Peter didn't get married! (In fact she's now into women, but that's a topic for another day.) Which seems kind of obvious considering that when this series began they were estranged and awkward around each other so a few months in Marvel time isn't going to made for a real solid foundation. Instead this is where Rogue and Gambit tie the knot. The series lasted a handful of issues past this point before the Krakoan Age of X-Men changed the course of things. But I feel like the events of this issue still affect these two characters to this day.

Pretty smooth pencils by Anacelto! The way he allows the grain of shading to fade towards the back into the light forces more focus upon Kitty, Lockheed, and those roses.
