Description'The Moon Pool', a signed original pencil drawing on tracing paper from 1977. The artwork was commissioned in full colour by publisher Avon Books, New York, for the cover of A. Merritt's novel The Moon Pool. Rodney mailed this very piece to Avon Books and a week or two later, happening to be in New York, called in at their office to see if they had come to decision. The art director went wild upon seeing him - and not out of joy - for he had mailed it back to England by express post with an urgent demand for finished work to meet a pressing deadline! Rodney returned from the US to find that he had only three days to complete the painting!Authentication is provided by an accompanying certificate of authenticity, which will be "genuine original artwork" stamped, dated and hand-signed by Rodney Matthews. Image measures 355 (h) x 448 (w) mm With mount, finished item measures 490 (h) x 568 (w) mm Creases are visible where the paper had been previously folded. The condition is reflected in the price.
