Description

Every year at Heroes, there's an artist whose work I'm introduced to for the first time and am absolutely blown away by. Interestingly, for the past few years, it's been Stephen Green who has pointed me in the direction of said artist (so thank you Stephen). This year's revelation was Marco Ferrari, an Italian artist with a very cool manga-inspired style. This piece was created by him for the 2023 Heroes Con auction. I had the good fortune to see it at his table while he was still working on it, and it was stunning even in its unfinished state.

I would be remiss if I didn't give special thanks to ML for being an absolute gem of a human being in letting this go to me. He reminds me of what an warm and generous community of collectors I'm privileged to be a part of.

The foreshortening is splendid to give us a sense of Death's casual pose at rest. Nothing is tense and the multiple screen tones bring out the best to put everything in proper perspective.

Obviously, the better collector won! Congrats! This is a stunning piece and I am a big fan of Marco, and am delighted to see his work receiving the attention and praise that it deserves.

His use of grey tones is exemplary. I'm going to have to buy something from him just to look at it under a magnifying glass.
