Description

Christmas came early this year. In this case, October 2022 at NYCC, when I accomplished a key collecting goal of acquiring a page from The Sandman.

I began reading Sandman during the Brief Lives story arc, which remains my favorite arc, and this page falls directly into the box of what I was hoping to get from the book.

Short of Ishtar being featured on it, this page was perfect for me.

When it came to auction at Heritage in November 2021, I made strong bids, I watched the fair warning come up, I watched the countdown, I was top bidder, and the auction closed at what I thought to be a really solid price.

DING!!! A late bid came in, reopening the lot and beating me by one increment. I was deflated, at my limit, and couldn't bring myself to keep bidding, ending up the underbidder.

A couple of days later, in conversation with M L, we realized the sequence of events, as he had won the piece.

When it's said that this hobby is built on relationships, me landing this piece was a classic case of that, as we worked out a deal.

M L - can't thank you enough for enabling this "must-have" to land in my collection.

A series of idiotic mistakes on my part were finally rectified when I was able to deliver this page to you! You were more than generous in return and it's enough for me to know the page is in home where it is beloved. Happy Holidays Dan!

Congrats, Dan! Great page with Thompson's wonderful rendition of Delirium and the Endless characters and also the wonderful Klein lettering of her speech balloons.

This page is sooo great, a huge accomplishment and sounds like it finally got to a proper home with you. Huge congrats and a nice story to go along with it. Agree 100% with the relationships built on here being a wonderful key factor of the right pages finding their way to people passionate for them. Cheers to you both!
