Description

Is this a grail piece? I feel like it is. Very few images capture so much of what the X-Men are about in a single splash page better than this one by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer. Team conflict between two of their most iconic leaders while the true enemy is looming just overhead. It reminds me so much of human conflict in general. Whether it's race, politics, or plain old family drama... the art here can serve as a metaphor for so much.

What's an astonishing piece without an underwhelming procurement story? Well, Alan Davis paid a rare visit to San Diego Comic-Con this year and his table was the first place I stopped by. I flipped through his portfolios and picked up a beautiful pre show Psylocke illustration. That was my goal for the show so... Mission accomplished! That already put me over budget, but I continued to flip through his portfolios and saw this page. Once I picked my jaw up from the floor and caught my breath, I calmly handed the portfolio back to Alan's rep and walked away. Over the next couple of days, I thought over and over about how cool it would be to own it. I took my wife over to get a head sketch from Mr. Davis and afterwards, she started looking through the portfolios. Somehow the page was still there. She pointed it out and said "you have to get this." I hadn't mentioned the page to my wife prior to this and it's not everyday she gives me a green light to purchase art, so it felt like it was meant to be.

Very powerful piece indeed and I'm thankful that my wife insisted that I make the purchase.

I’m glad you bought it, because I kept going back to his table and looking at it and debating. Great composition and just a dynamic piece. Congrats!

Thanks, Andre. I gave it a whole day and said to myself that if nobody else picks it up then it must be meant to be.

I was saying the same thing, but Sunday since I had already bought some pieces. Glad it went to a good home, and congrats again!

You can say that again. I strongly hope he's invited to SDCC/WonderCon next year.

Tremendous X-Men splash page from Alan Davis and Mark Farmer! Love the giant hand of the Sentinel reaching down to crush Cyclops and Wolverine on the ground! What great image! Congrats!

I'll have to try creating a discard deck. I'm still a noob but I find my Ongoing deck to be the most succesful.

Yessir! I play at least once a day but not nearly as much as I did when I first started. Definitely cool to see Nimrod and Mastermold. How about you? You still playing?

That's rad, man!  I LOVE the Sentinels.  One of my favorite comic designs ever, and part of that is the different spins artists can make on 'em...but you always know it's a Sentinel with that face.  Awesome combo here, with Farmer really accentuating Davis's details!  Congrats!
