Description11.5 x 17.5 board"The Three Gold Whips" Happy to finally acquire a Mignola cover from the main Hellboy series, and to the ending of the saga, at that. Love the composition of this piece, which has so many of the great Mignola elements. A cemetery, skeletons, stonework in the tombstones and statue. The addition of the foliage lightens the mood and also adds a great sense of depth to the scene. The Frazetta influenced triangular structure is in the composition is on display. The story itself is quite enjoyable as it's an entertaining side story in HB's journey through Hell while also moving the narrative/ending forward. Maybe a glimpse into the difference in Hellboy ruling this land as he helps to save a damned soul. It feels like Mignola liked this cover as he uses it as the first interior cover-type image to the Hellboy in Hell Library Edition. I very much appreciate the fact that Mignola gave this story an ending. It makes the journey more beautiful and compelling while also allowing us to appreciate any new stories that he unveils. As you wrote, this has so many of Mignola's signature elements; however, I can't stop looking at how masterfully Mignola lays down the ink on this page. Just wave after wave of ink, especially in the upper left of the piece. A true one and done,

From an aesthetic standpoint, Hellboy in Hell was my favorite story arc from the whole series, and this image captures so much of what I love about it. No one can spot his blacks, lay down a few perfectly placed thin lines, or design shapes like Mignola. There's an etherial quality to the figures, architectural elements, and floating leaves, and time stands still while the shadows shift

So beautiful! I love that Hellboy is not the largest figure in the piece but our eye still gets led directly to him. Congrats!

Evokes classical religious notions of heaven opened up above and hell below with our and Hellboy's realm in the center where the undead walk amongst us. Only leaves and butterfies can exist in all three planes.

Triangular composition indeed. Really nice piece that really has pretty much everything you want. As you say, all the elements Mignola is known for are there. Kudos!
