DescriptionThis iconic cover to Punisher War Journal #7 speaks for itself. Every master has THAT piece that sets them apart. For Jim Lee that piece is this cover. The cover prior was ok and there was one interior page (page 4) from Punisher War Journal 6 that hinted at greatness but when this cover to issue 7 came out it changed everything. Like Davinci and the Mona Lisa or Michelangelo and the David, Jim Lee took it to another level with this cover. This is the image that pushed him into the stratosphere. A transformational cover that made Jim Lee a superstar.Awesome note from Jim Lee to Carl in the margin as if to say, 'I just realized I might be the next Da Vinci and not going to medical school so don't screw this up.' “Carl – Call me before you start. – Jim” Social/Sharing |

Now this is a piece of real life comic book history! What you said in your description is spot on - I remember this being the comic book that caused anyone who didn't know who Jim Lee was at that point to realize they had a superstar on the rise. All of the kids I knew who were buying comics at the time bought this issue (and the one before it) because they wanted to see the Punisher fight Wolverine, but by the time this two-parter was over, all everyone was talking about was how amazing the art was and wanting more of it. Congrats!

You are right, the progress that Jim made from the Alpha Flight issues in just a few months was just unbelievable. Great catch!

This is one that I recall "attempting" to draw over and over again.. just that wolverine figure mind you, as I struggled so with him, that I could never move on to the Punisher! Killer rendition of these heroes first meeting, and the ever popular comic book trope of two heroes fighting due to a misunderstanding! Congrats, and thanks for sharing!

Congrats! Truly iconic cover! Now the important question is whether Carl called Jim and if so, what did he say? Maybe, "don't screw this up"? :)

ICONIC indeed! I remember this jumping off the new comics wall at the LCS all those years ago. There was always a comic or two that grabbed your attention as you made your way to the "new" wall and this certainly was that book for me that week. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

WOW! "Iconic" fo sho! A killer face off shot from early-to-become-superstar Jim! Love the note, too - "call me before you start". He knew he had something special on his hands. Sincere congrats - true gem!

Fantastic Lee cover with Wolverine and Punisher hitting all the right points for what you would want in a cover like this.

Listening to latest Felix podcast and they mention this cover off CLink was posted. Hadn't seen it so wanted to check it out. So amazing. This is one of those issues that, when I was collecting, and had run out of long boxes, I'd keep on my desk just to look at.
Fantastic!

Wow!!! Now I know how you got your name. I'm sure after seeing your collection, a lot of collectors uttered the same words..."We Quit". Well done, sir
