Description

Red and Rover by Brian Basset tells the story of a boy and his dog. They are devoted to each other and, yes, each knows what the other is thinking.

It fits quite nicely into my collection of comic strips.

The lot contained (much to my surprise):

The original pen and ink drawing
The hand colored color guide submitted for printing
A preliminary for another strip which I need to research

The color guide, the preliminary, and the digital version of the published piece can be found in the Additional Images section.

This strip was part of an auction run by Bill Cox of the Comic Art Fans website for the National Cartoonists Society Foundation's 2023 Ruebens Award fundraiser.

That's wonderful all the way around. I love the figure movement throughout and the expression in the final panel.

Nice pickup! Simple wordless gag universally understood! It builds up the gag slowly but surely and makes us work a little to spot where the balls are until it pays off.
