Once I decided to turn The Mandalorian into a new commission theme, it was pretty easy to pick a follow-up to Fabio Moon.

Eduardo Risso, the modern master of chiaroscuro.

Eduardo has put pen to paper on many of my favorite comics from the last twenty-five years, and I�ve been fortunate enough to commission him several times over that span. First when he was repped by Red Sector Art back in the early aughts, and more recently through his son, Nico.

The pieces he creates for me are always spectacular, so it was a no-brainer decision. However, even after all my years of marveling at his work, I�m still constantly amazed by the artistic choices he makes.

I mean, honestly, who but Eduardo would take the most recognizable part of the Mandalorian and put it completely in shadow? Yet it�s that elegant simplicity that makes this one so masterful. By stripping out the detail and letting the shapes of the visor and rifle do the heavy lifting, he takes our eye exactly where he wants it to go.

In a comics world that can sometimes feel too enamored with detail in the age of digital art, Eduardo�s ability to frame a composition with such a strong grasp of positive and negative space is a gift to us all. My friend, Rich, no slouch of an artist himself, said it best about Eduardo. �He makes something near impossible to do look so effortless.�

Great world building of classic westerns with the depth shown by Grogu out front, Mando behind and the Razor Crest off in the distance. The shadow over Mando's upper half is awesome with just the face shield showing through.
