DescriptionFor my money, there’s no more interesting voice in comics right now than Jesse Lonergan. His books like Hedra, Planet Paradise and Drome challenge the limits of page construction as only his unique sensibilities can, and I’m happy to see more people learning about him thanks to his collaboration with Mike Mignola on Miss Truesdale and the Fall of Hyperborea. His commission work is just as uniquely his own. What’s more, it’s always evolving. When I first saw Jesse’s drawings back in 2019, he was using lots of small wavy lines and mixing black and white with color to startling effects. However, over the last few years he’s moved away from that style and experimented with incorporating stamps, screen tones and toned markers. I’m sure he’ll try something else soon, as he tells me he likes to challenge himself to grow and avoid getting stale. This is the third 11x17 I’ve commissioned from him, and each has brought something new to the table. The first was a recreation of a scene from the Winter Soldier as a comic page. The second was a time-bending piece telling the story of Obi-wan Kenobi, and now this entry into my growing Mandalorian collection. This time around, Jesse designed the page in the shape of a Mandalorian breast plate and packed each section with characters and moments from the show. Looking around you’ll find the Krayt Dragon, Storm Troopers, IG-11, the Mudhorn, Moff Gideon, the Armorer and the Razor Crest crashing to the spaceport on Trask from episode 3 of season two. And (literally) running through all these events are the main characters of Din Djarin and Grogu, who’s chasing after some froggy snacks to boot. It’s so perfectly Jesse, and I’m forever appreciative of the time and thought he put into creating such a phenomenal composition for me. Size: 11”x17” Social/Sharing |

Master of layouts and patterns, you get a lot of Lonergan's talent here with a montage of key scenes inside the armor pattern while Mando and Grogu travel across them.

How about helping your old friend Ken get his first 11x17 commission from Jesse? :-) This came out fantastic and I am looking forward to adding something new from Jesse soon.

Great piece!
I've been a fan of Jesse for a long time as well, also starting with a scene from a movie. He consistently delivers. His Patreon is also a great insight into his evolving work.
