DescriptionUnpublished cover of the Luther Manning version of Deathlok the Demolisher. The cover is penciled and inked by Mike Perkins on standard Marvel Bristol board measuring 11" x 17"and is signed at the bottom by the artist. A brief interview of Mike Perking on an upcoming Deathlok series that he was slated to do along with this image was originally published in the August 2007 Wizard magazine. Purchased this beautiful piece back in late January 2012. As you might have guessed, I am a huge long time fan of the character and was completely thrilled to acquire this piece.I first noticed this through a Deathlok internet fan site and became so enamored with the art that I made the color image my computer desktop wallpaper for several years. Then, I reached out to Mike Perkins directly to see if he had this art for sale. He referred me to his rep and comic art dealer, Ruben Azcona (Quebec, Canada), who had it in his personal collection. Many thanks to Ruben for making the transaction seamless and would recommend you check out his site comicbookartgallery.com for other art. Ruben shared with me that the original Deathlok series was delayed or put on the back burner, and in the interim Mike Perkins was offered a dream opportunity to illustrate Stephen King's The Stand over 31 issues from September 2008 - January 2012. Perkins eventually got his opportunity to relaunch Deathlok in December 2014 with the Henry Hayes version of the character, which ran over 10 issues until July 2015. Even though the unpublished cover art suggests Perkins was going to use Luther Manning as the basis for the proposed series, the Luther Manning Deathlok character and original cover art were ultimately never used by Marvel. I attached an image of the color art which was colored by the late Justin Ponsor, and separately a copy of the Wizard magazine article. Also included is a picture of Mike Perkins at a comic convention with the Deathlok original art in the background at the bottom right. Sorry that the picture is a little fuzzy. Social/Sharing |
