Description

Back in the day when print newspapers were still a thing people regularly read, my parents were daily subscribers to our local paper (as I also am to this day - support local journalism folks). Each morning, I would turn straight to the comics page in the Life section, and the first strip I'd read would be Garfield - hands down my favorite strip growing up. In fact, every year at the annual school book fair, I’d seek out any new Garfield collections to buy and would end up reading those books to death. I probably still have them stored away in a box somewhere in the attic. As I grew older, strips like Bloom County, Calvin and Hobbes, and more recently, Pearls Before Swine, came on the scene and supplanted Garfield as my go to comics page reads, but I still have a soft spot for those earlier Jim Davis drawn strips.

With the glut of Garfield strips being auctioned off by Davis recently, I decided it was finally time to add one to the collection. This Sunday featuring Garfield, Odie, and Jon Arbuckle hits all the right notes for me. The only thing missing is a pan of lasagna.

Nice Sunday and 1984 is the first year Garfield walked upright in which he does in this one. I read these too growing up and although I get a bit of friendly ribbing from friends about collecting this stuff, I think it is fun and glad to see others do too.
