DescriptionIf you've been collecting art for long enough you'll hear about or (hopefully not) experience commission horror stories. Thankfully that wasn't the case here; dealing with Chris was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had.I was added to Chris' commission list so long ago (like 2004?) that I actually forgot that I was on it. Fast forward to February 2013 and I get an email from Chris that I'm up. I thought about it and ultimately decided on Death; I loved his work on the character in the 90s and I knew I'd regret it if I went with something else. Of course I couldn't make it a simple request. One of my favorite lines from any comic is Death's from Sandman #20 ("When the first living thing existed, I was there, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job will be finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights, and lock the universe behind me as I leave") which I included in a horrible sketch I did in the late 90s plus I love the design of a Bruce Timm sketch that I lost out on ebay a dozen or so years ago. So anyway I screwed up my courage & asked Chris what he thought about of incorporating all of the elements into the piece. He wasn't too sure about the lettering aspect and told me that he'd have to think about it. Fast forward again to June 2013 and the scan hit my inbox. I was floored! A commissioned piece has never come this close to matching the idea in my head. I immediately asked Chris to put be pack on the list and I can't wait to see what he does for me in 2022...
