DescriptionLast year I reached out to Bryan Baugh pitching a couple of possible commission ideas. The first was a more traditional "carousel girl" pin-up piece (one of my go-tos for commissions), while the second was my ongoing Hostess ad parody project. He was really enthusiastic about the carousel piece and decided to go with that one, but while drawing it we swapped a few emails exchanging ideas that might work for the parody ad. He mentioned to me that he had long had an idea for a scene of Batsy and Kershy "moon-bathing" at night, but had never found an excuse to work it into a comic and thought it might be funny to have the pair interrupted by a bikini-stealing monster, then remedy the situation with the help of some tasty snack cakes.I thought the idea had a ton of potential and threw together a basic storyboard outline of how the scene might play out and sent it to him. We weren't able to make it happen at the time, but Bryan reached out to me earlier this year after coming across the script and mentioned that he would like to take it on if I was still up for the project. I immediately responded yes. The piece was a unique challenge for him. Bryan uses a brush for most of his artwork, which best lends itself to fewer and larger panels when he is drawing comics. Plus, the last time he had hand-lettered anything was more than two decades ago. I'm happy to say that he completely overcame these challenges with end results that turned out fantastic and made for a really fun piece. Bryan has held on to all of the interior artwork from his Wulf and Batsy series, so this also provided me with a rare opportunity to get a panel page from him for my collection. Social/Sharing |

Very nice theme! Who doesn't like Batsy and Kershy's pies? The inks combine the good girl look with the 50's B movie horror angle! I'm sure the girls will have their fill of pie eventually.
