DescriptionThis winter while CAF members were attending OAX in sunny Orlando, I attended the Garden State Comic Winter Fest in Sussex, NJ. There was a nice group of artists in attendance and Scott Hanna was one of them. Last year I bought several GL Pasarin pages which I haven't scanned and posted. At this show he had several nice pieces. This Venom piece was one of them. I kept coming back to it as I walked the show floor. It came down to a Godzilla 11x17 piece and Venom. The Venom harkened back to the glory years of illustration and Franklin Booth. Scott and I talked about his influences in doing this piece and the time required. Scott wanted to show a true example of inking in a style that is not used very much, HATCHING. Hatching is the use of parallel lines to achieve texture, dimensionality, tone, and shadow. Scott recreated a long-gone era of art technique with an exceptional result. Venom never looked better. The composition may be a familar one, but the ink within job is superb! You can sense all the sinews and muscles working together all for some evil wickedness! It's done like it was a demon illustration style for bibles.

I'll be there Gabe. I need to get 2 commissions from an artist. It is a fun show. Hope he can get a few more artists out of the city.
