Description

So Nick Fury had a wild idea and set off to put a plan into fruition. Now trapped in 1936, the Fantastic Four attempt to prevent Fury from killing Hitler; they fail and as Hitler is shot, the Fantastic Four wake up in a SHIELD base and find that Reed is still alive. He explains how he escaped the Negative Zone and that their time in 1936 was all part of the dream of the mutant Licorice Calhoun.

Just like the season of Dallas, for those of you old enough to remember.

I loved page, especially the final panel. Classic Byrne work! And you get Nick Fury facing off against Hitler!

The dream plot is kind of a cheat, but the art is great all the same. I assume the names in panel two are call-backs to vintage Howling Commando comics.

I love the fact that if Fury hadn't shocked everyone by killing Hitler they might never have escaped the mutant-induced dreamworld.

And Byrne always drew the best beard stubble on Fury.

Very cool Byrne page, even without any of the FF. Gordon works well with Byrne here.

You can feel the energy rippling off the page. It's action packed and emotionally charged. Wonderful closeup of a wrathful Fury snarling at a fearful Fuehrer. I also like the panoramic action of guards shooting and Fury getting hit.

Nice page. This is the period when Shooter was demanding all of us Inkers separate planes on the pages by THICK and THICKER black outlines. It was really ridiculous for him to be so global about it. I think most, if not all, of these THICK lines are actually by me. : )

I did them thicker because the issue before I just ignored Jim and because his goose-stepping orders weren't followed, he went though the issue with a fugging Laundrey Marker and messed-up some of the pages pretty bad. But you got a nice one.
