DescriptionLloyd Norman Rognan (American, 1923-2005)"The Cosmic Destroyer" written by Alexander Blade - Imaginative Tales - September 1957. Gouache on board 19 x 14 inches (image) Initialed lower left. Fantastic example of 1950's Atomic Age science fiction cover art by Lloyd Rognan. While not exactly a household name, Rognan did quite a few covers for the digest sized magazines Imagination and its sister publication, Imaginative Tales. His covers were always distinctive and colorful and had a certain strangeness to them which made them definite attention grabbers! This example is one of his best and manages to incorporate multiple 50's science fiction tropes in a single image, including a giant sexy alien female (reminds me of the B-movie "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman"), tiny astronauts scurrying about in fear of their lives, while she destroys their rocket ship with her laser eyes! Wow, are they ever having a bad day! Very happy to add this quintessential 50's sci-fi art to the collection! Social/Sharing |

Really hot with her skin tight red outfit radiating sex appeal and heat on this cover! Such great appeal and interest in these giant women as Attack of the 50 Ft Woman movie was still a year away.

Cool piece for all the things you mention. I am also taken with the "pretty" explosion caused by her eye beams!

Giant hottie alert. Shes so hot beams of heat are emanating from her eyes. Have the perils of space travel ever been as enticing, begging the question of whether she has a similarly formed but smaller sister?
