DescriptionI love Bob Montana's style on the older Archie strips. This is from the second year. The strip itself is quite large at 19.5" x 25.5".Social/Sharing |

That's freakin cool. Love the sie. The fact that it's from 1947 adds to the coolness and the art is just too much fun. Hugs congrats. What came first .. the comic or the strip?

Thanks Duke. I appreciate it. The comic came first by the way. Pep 22, the first appearance of Archie, Betty and Jughead came out in December 1941. The strip started in 1946, both by the way, drawn by Bob Montana.

The first panel in the second tier is magnificent with a character defining image against the black background. It's jarring how different they look compared to how we are used to the modern look and all the more interesting.

Agreed, Marcus. The old style really draws me in.

Fantastic Sunday example, Bob. I LOVE the early Archie strips, the earlier the better. I've always wanted an example with the classic "bucktooth" Archie. I also love that it hs a boxing theme. Wicked!

Thanks Ruben! I was happy to get such an early one. This is the 30th Sunday and it has so many funny images.

Congrats, Bob. Such a fun Archie Sunday with standout cartooning by Montana throughout. I'm a newbie when it comes to the Archie newspaper strip. I don't think I ever saw it in ANY of the newspaper funny pages I read back in the 70s and 80s. It apparently ran though 2011 so it must have had a somewhat dedicated fanbase.

Thanks, Mark. I never really cared for the strip once Dan DeCarlo took it over, but I've always been a fan of Montana's work on it. It was his baby from the 40s until the 70s.

Great example of the early Archie comic strip. Funny to see how different Archie and Jughead looked in 1947! Different time, different style.

Wow. So much transpiring on one page. The inset circular impact panel. The boxing panel(s). Great example!

Wow, you don't see much 1940s Archie art out there. This is a great one!
