DescriptionSOLDArtist: Bryan Talbot Title: The Adventures of Luther Arkwright, #3 The Firefrost Principle, front cover 1987, & Octobriana Medium: Ink on paper Size: 420mm x 300mm Signed: yes, Bryan Talbot 87 Inscription: Underneath the image in ink is written “For Suzanna Bryan Talbot x” Notes: Front cover art for The Adventures of Luther Arkwright, #3 The Firefrost Principle, 1988. Octobriana & Luther Arkwright The character Octobriana helps Luther in the basement of the pyramid to escape the disruptors that were trying to steal the Firefrost. The Adventures of Luther Arkwright had a start-and-stop publication history, beginning in 1978 and not being completed until 1989. The first parts of the story appeared as a five-part serial in the British underground comic Near Myths in 1978–1980. The story continued in the comic’s anthology pssst! in 1982. After five more episodes, however, the story was interrupted when pssst! was cancelled, less than half complete. Before shutting down, pssst!'s publisher, Serge Boissevain, collected all the Luther Arkwright stories — including the material from Near Myths — in a trade paperback called The Adventures of Luther Arkwright Book 1: Rat Trap. Between 1987 and 1989 Talbot completed the story, which was published as a series of nine standard comic books by Valkyrie Press, followed, at readers' request, by a tenth issue, titled ARKeology, containing articles about the history and production of the comic and some extended back story and character information. A sincere "thank you" for the history lesson on the series. My only exposure to it has been two random issues I picked up in the 90s (one from Dark Horse, the other I can't recall the publisher of) as well as a supplement to the second role-playing game that was published based on it a few years ago.

Glad you liked the image and the info that I could put together. I also have an interior page too, with both these characters in. I will upload this next week. I also have another interior by Bryan Talbot called "G-Man", which I liked the look of. It was an unpublished strip created by Pat Mills with artist Bryan Talbot in 1986, but later published in November 1988, in a British Fanzine called ARK.

Great way to embrace the underground with the inclusion of Octobriana! Her apperances are sporadic and often come as a surprise. Talbot's linework is silky fine here in an illustrative style for this cover presentation.
