DescriptionLast big drop of 2024. It was a hell of a collecting year! The X-Men animated series took my love of mutants to the next level and cemented them as my favorite pop-culture IP. Before the 1992 series, Marvel did a pilot episode called "The Pryde of the X-Men." Infamous for an Australian Wolverine, many of the creators of this episode went on to develop the X-Men animated series. In addition, the story and character designs were used by Konami for their massively popular 2-6 player X-Men arcade game. The six playable characters and Kitty, who you rescue, are on this cover. "Welcome to Die!" Many people don't know that the classic Golden-Age comic artist Russ Heath was the character designer for "Pryde of the X-Men" (the G.I Joe cartoon also). He illustrated this excellent Marvel Age cover that reveals the upcoming X-Men cartoon to the masses for the first time. One bonus, the previous collector was able to hunt down the original art for the Forbush Man corner box by Ron Zalme. The Marvel Age covers had these fun corner pieces for most of the run. Finally, THANK YOU to my collector/friend for parting with this piece. Social/Sharing |

wowza!!! that's a helluva cover, and amazing to get the corner box art for it too. you've had quite the collecting year and this is a nice one to endcap it with. I think there's a typo in the artist credit "Rush Heath" is listed just FYI though (you might already be correcting it by the time you see this comment)

Hate to say the best part of this cover is the small image of Forbush Man, but there it is! I said it. Now thats not to say, the X-men aint half bad either. Congrats!

The X-Men animated series has such a great legacy and 2024 brought it back in full force! This may be their first comic cover appearance and it's and explosion of greatness worthy or all the praise it's getting!

Hey keed, ya wanna pace a froot?
Congratulations, James! I absolutely loved ALL the animated X-Men guest appearances from the 1980's and I even bought this issue of Marvel Age off the stands the week it came out. I always loved the irony in knowing that Heath wasn't the biggest fan of the superhero genre and avoided drawing them in comics as much as possible, but then ended up drawing a ton of X-Men when he went into animation. A memorable Marvel Age cover and kudos on getting the Zalme art for the corner box as well!

A much more streamlined approach for Heath than his War comics stuff, proof that he could do it all (quite well).

Wonderful cover and so cool to see all the background and extras! You know I love that stuff. Killer image and easy to see why it was used multiple times. Thanks for sharing it all and congrats my friend.

What a way to close out the collecting year. That corner box art with Forbush Man is just perfect. And I guess it came with an X-Men cover, which isn't half-bad. Congrats!
