DescriptionA double trip to Nostalgia...The adventures of Doc Savage had, despite their sometimes unprobable asides, some strong appeal to my young self, if only for the title character, so archetypal, but so brilianty rendered... And when Marvel did their own, very respectful, take on Doc Savage, at the begining of the 70's, I was clearly delighted... Artist Ross Andru was, for me, ideally suited to bring him to comic life, and it became even more obvious when Tom Palmer joined him on inks... This particular scene from the 4th issue perfectly represents how the breathless pace of Doc Savage's adventures blends in well with the Marvel style. Ross Andru, a master in dynamics, with tense postures, dry gestures, hard grins and nervous blows, is ideally supported here by the ultra-lush inks of Tom Palmer. Panel 4, with Doc Savage literally jumping out of his disguise, is, for me, the quintessence of the character. Social/Sharing |

I've always wondered why bullies don't consider meeting someone who kicks their a$$, sooner or later. And I heard about a guy named John who could kill with one of those pencils 😸 Great page!

A brick layer's dream! All the action and pagentry in bringing the pulp legend to the comic page as he reveals himself and fights back in a way you had never seen so extreme before!

Thanks Marcus! Yes, there's a street level on this one that I found quite appealing...

Thanks Toni! "Reliable" is the most appropriate term to qualify Ross Andru, I think...
