DescriptionPage published in the English magazine "Look & Learn" in the mid-1960s (guess it's #250, Oct. 1966) as the 8th chapter of a narration of the myth of Perseus. The title was pasted on and it's gone at some point, the first panel is a photocopy, everything else is original art.Already at the peak of his artistic maturity, Dino Battaglia (1923-1983) shows here his calligraphic and elegant style, immediately recognizable. Even the colors, almost certainly done by Battaglia's wife Laura De Vescovi (1928-2018), are simply perfect. I'm very happy to finally add a piece by this great Italian master to my collection! I alone can't change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.

Perseus: Ask your riddle.
Andromeda: In my mind's eyes I see... three circles joined in priceless, graceful harmony. Two full as the moon. One hollow as a crown. Two from the sea, five fathoms down. One from the earth, deep under the ground. The whole, a mark of high renown. Tell me, what can it be?
Perseus: Have courage, princess. What can it be? Three circles joined. Two moons and a crown.
Andromeda: Tell me!
Perseus: The answer is a ring! Two pearls in a circle of gold! The ring of the Lord of the Marsh. The pearl ring of Calibos. Here, on the claw hand of Calibos himself!
The ring. A gift from his mother... the goddess Thetis. Is that the answer?
Is that the answer? Tell me!
Andromeda: Yes!
Perseus: We fought in the swamp! I spared his life on one condition. That he renounce his curse. There will be no more bonfires. No more nightmares. Light has conquered darkness. You're free.

Stunning art by the great Dino Battaglia! I love the layout of this page, with Perseus meeting the old crones in the opening panels. Each panel is laid out beautifully, and Battaglia's skill is evident throughout. I love how the page starts out dark and grim and ends with the final panel of Perseus moving across the gorgeous sunrise. Great linework accentuated by beautiful colors. Wonderful pick-up, congratulations!
