DescriptionAfter years of comics being dominated by the “big two” (Marvel and DC) and the genre, driven in large part, by superheroes, things began to change in the 1980s. At the beginning of that decade, a couple of new publishers and imprints entered the field, publishing a different kind of story while offering comics creators the opportunity to retain all rights to their characters and the stories. Among those early publishers were Pacific Comics and Eclipse Comics. Other publishers, like Fantagraphics and Dark Horse Comics, also entered the field during this period.One of those early projects was Somerset Holmes. It was initially published as a six-issue limited series by Pacific Comics. However, shortly after the fourth issue (April 1984) Pacific folded due to financial problems. Many of Pacific's titles found a new home at Eclipse Comics. Eclipse published the last two issues of Somerset Holmes in 1984 and then published all six issues in an oversized graphic album. That collection is out of print but was the beginning of a pattern followed by Marvel and DC to this day. The series was written by Bruce Jones and April Campbell and drawn by Brent Anderson series and was one of my favorite series from the 1980s. Bar none. And I always wondered, whatever happened to Somerset Holmes. Over the years I have communicated with Brent Anderson and recently he opened up his commission list. I could not resist and asked for a commission with Somerset Holmes. This is the piece, all of which leads to a new story to tell us what did happened to Somerset Holmes. I can’t wait. WOW! This is magnidicent.....Brent, you've come a looooong way in 40 years! Absolutely outstanding! Wally, are you trying to say that Brent plans on self publishin a NEW Somerset Holmes story? I would think some publisher out there would be willing to publish that AND publish "The Complete Somerset Holmes" in trade paperback format with both series collected together!

That is correct, Ruben. He plans to do a story answering the question, Whatever Happened to Somerset and include it in a collection of all six stories shot from original art... an Artists Edition. I can't wait!

Nice commission !! Brent Anderson is a great artist. I asked him about the Someset Holmes art once and he still had all of it. Not for sale... -> sad trombone <- If there really will be a Somererset Holmes Artist Edition, sign me up.
