DescriptionMartin may not be in front of the camera at the moment, but that doesn't stop him from continuing a dissertation about Hitler, with his neanderthal sidekick Java as his only audience. “…When are we done?” “Rghrr...Ghrmm?” “Yes, old man. The Eagle's Nest is Adolf Hitler's former mountain refuge. And unlike most Nazi-related monuments and buildings, it was not bombed or destroyed by the Allies during World War II. So what you see now is basically the same building it once was. In 1952 it was converted into a restaurant, and it still is today. Hitler loved Bavaria and the Obersalzberg area in the Salzburg Alps. In 1928 he rented a house called Berghof near the town of Berchtesgaden, which he then purchased in 1933 with the royalties from Mein Kampf and expanded in the following years. A few years later, Martin Bormann, Hitler's secretary and Nazi hierarch, had the idea of building a refuge on the top of Mount Kehlstein, not far from the Berghof, at 1834 meters above sea level. The residence was completed in 1938, but Hitler never visited it much; he suffered from vertigo. Some diplomatic meetings took place there and little else.” “Mgher...ghrmm?” “Yes, hearing about the Eagle's Nest, my incurable curiosity took over, and I decided to come here without calling the nice architect. We had some spare time between one take and another, and so I said to myself 'why not?'” “Ghrr! Rghmm!” Sforza got to draw a lot of slow-laden pine branches in this sequence. The working title of this story was "The Eagles' Nest," but the publisher went with a more mysterious title in the end. Social/Sharing |

The line work is beautiful on this. What is the date on this piece? US comic (I'm guessing not)?

This was published in March 2024. It's an Italian series which I translated into English for the benefit of CAF readers. You can read more about this series and this issue on the main page of this gallery. I am posting a pair of pages from it every three days.

I'm going to guess that place serves up non stop weiners and has an awkward gift shop that Marge Schott shopped at.
