Description

I didn�t start reading comics until I was around twelve years old. Before their siren call hooked me, I was raised on the pulp heroes my dad grew up on, usually through the old tv shows he watched as a kid and rewatched with my brother and I.

Superman was always my favorite, thanks to George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, but I have a fondness dating back to childhood for Tarzan, the Lone Ranger and that wily fox, Zorro.

I�ve had the good fortune of getting to know Matt Wagner over the years thanks to our mutual friendship with Tim Sale. So, I was very excited when it was announced Matt would be writing a Year One Zorro tale and drawing the covers as well.

All of them were great, but this one was my favorite thanks to the strong diagonal composition and great use of negative space. It�s stark, dynamic and full of energy, as Zorro should be.

Hard to believe this was already published some fifteen years ago. I was fortunate it was still available from Jim Warden when I bought it back in 2022. This is Matt at his best.
