DescriptionJust a great page 1 splash featuring Cyclops, a character that has steadily grown on me as I have aged. His leadership, his internal struggles, his losses, etc. have all helped him enter my list of characters I hated as a child, but that now shine brighter in time.Social/Sharing |

SUPERB page, William - congrats! What a striking image - I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Cyclops brandishing a sword in challenging manner quite like that before, and I can only imagine Wolverine is going to take it very level-headedly and well.... ;)
That Bianchi-era Astonishing X-Men costume is one of my favorites for Cyclops, and how Simone illustrates it here is nothing short of breathtaking in its execution; the textures of cloth, the patterns of the costume, the gorgeously insane details on the boots... Wow...
My favorite thing about this, though, is the ground beneath Cyclops; that elegant detailing of the rocks directly beneath him, that excellent execution of his shadow, and how those rocks quickly “fade” into the background gives the impression of a high intensity light source directly from above: high noon. I haven’t read this particular story, but everything about this page screams “old west showdown” to me. AWESOME pick up! Great add!

Sorry, didn’t get all the comments out! Yeah - opening myself up more to the ‘old west showdown’ approach, it all seems obvious to me now: his boots even look like they have spurs, and his right hand looks perched and ready to “draw down” on whoever’s supplying the POV of the image (I’m guessing Wolverine....?). SO good.
Are the stripes of lighter white to the right of Cyclops’ head and running down between his left shoulder and sword actually on the artwork itself? Great, subtle lighting effect, if so, which of course adds to the “high noon” presentation. William, this is awesome!

Accidental light through railing at top of stairs created the lighting effect that just fits this piece like it was made for it LOL

Love this! Cyclops is one of favorite X-Men now, too - now sure if anyone has been on more of a rollercoaster ride narratively then Cyke! And I dig that. And Bianchi does one of the best renditions! A picture perfect example here with the outstanding detail and tonal work. And with the Muramasa blade?! Yes, please :) Congrats!
