DescriptionEarlier this year, we took our kids to Paris for their first time (before the Olympics) and we had an absolute blast, walking around the city, visiting different attactions and just overall having a great time.So on our last day before flying home that evening, I convinced the kids to pop into the Galerie 9e Art studio/shop after visiting The Basilica of Sacré Coeur and we browsed through their collection of art from Deodato Jr and others and while there were other great pieces, this one just jumped out at us and we managed to secure it. And it wasn't without a hiccup, at one point, walking back to the hotel after acquiring it, we went to a some shops and I accidentally left it behind in one of them and didn't realise it until we got back to the hotel! After a 15 minutes panic run back to and tracing through multiple stores, I was thankfully able to find it and return to the hotel just before our car to the airport arrived. What a relief and an exciting / energising memory to have with the artwork. Given the close call, I just had to reach out to Mike via e-mail (he's so responsive) to find out the backstory and he shared how he originally intended this to be the actual cover to Uncanny X-Force #15, where he wanted to try out this new style of art, however, unfortunately, Marvel wanted him to do it in his usual style. To me, the raw energy and creativity on this just pops differently versus the traditional that was eventually published. This was subsequently published as part of Mike's kickstarter for a treasury edition sized Mike Deodato, Jr Sketchbook in 2016. As a fan of Mike's artwork on Wonder Woman and Hickman's run of Avengers, having this piece on the walls to mark the end of a joyful holiday with the kids, in one of my favourite cities in the world (with a cool lost and found story), is truly wonderful. It looks so much more powerful and raw from the underneath lighting! Very strong balance in composition that carried over to the final cover. Incredible story and you might have gotten a gold medal if hide and seek through the streets of Paris was an official event. It might have been more of an athletic feat than what Raygun did.

Hahaha it was invigorating and madly threading through other tourists at a sprint probably gave them something else to talk about for the day too. No kangaroo hops though.
