DescriptionFor those of you who did not know, Patrick Wright is David Wright's son... David Wright drew Carol Day from 10 September 1956 to 25 May 1967The way Patrick got this opportunity is a convoluted path. Modesty Blaise was created by Peter O'Donnell. When the London Evening Standard optioned the books for strips in their newspaper, O'Donnell elected to work with Jim Holdaway, with whom he had worked on the strip Romeo Brown, after a trial period of collaboration with Frank Hampson, creator of Dan Dare, left O'Donnell dissatisfied. Modesty Blaise debuted ion 13 May 1963. Holdaway gave the strip an interesting look. He drew the strip until his sudden death in 1970. There was a hurried search for a replacement and it was quickly decided to go with Spanish artist Enrique Badía Romero. Romero drew the strip for the next eight years before he decided to quit to make time for his own comics projects. Again there was a quick search. First John Burns was given the strip, but after two stories the editors decided to move on... even though (IMHO) Burns's work was closer to Holdaway. Then came Patrick Wright who only drew the strip from 01/07/1980 - 05/23/1980. O'Donnell is quoted as saying that even though Wright was recommended by the same agent as Romero, he thought Wright's style was too static for what he had in mind. Neville Colvin took over and drew the strip until 1986. At that point, Romero returned to the job and continued until the end of the strip. This daily is from the story entitled The Brethren of Blaise and has a nice portrait of Modesty in the final panel. The strip was produced in ink over graphite with an image area of 15.5" x 5.5" on a larger 20 x 7.25" piece of 2-ply Bristol board. The art is not signed but there is ample evidence that Wright is the listed artist As usual with me, shipping is not included in the price and must be paid by the buyer. I prefer checks or money orders. If you need to use PayPal, I need payment sent as a "gift" or via "Friends and Family". I apologize in advance if that is an inconvenience, I have been asked if I will ship to Europe... I will, but it is expensive and if you need to use PayPal for an international transaction I warn that PayPal requires items of this value to be insured for full value. Social/Sharing |
