DescriptionOn the cover art drop this was included in, there were about 3 or 4 pieces I was interested in, but there were 2 that were clearly at the top for me - the Dragotta Hellfire Gala cover and this one. I was actually a little slow on the trigger and I figured there was no way I was getting any of the covers, much less my top choices. Sadly, and unsurprisingly, I missed out on the Dragotta. Astonishingly, I was able to land this cover and to be totally honest, I'm not sure how nor why this fell in my lap as it's an eye-catching piece and was at a stellar price point. The only thing I can figure is the frenzy was focused on some of the other pieces or Sook and/or the Magic Order series are just criminally underappreciated. I've really liked Sook's work for quite some time and have been looking for just the right piece to add and fill that Sook spot in my collection, this one really hit the mark. I loved this cover for a multitude of reasons, Cordelia is there, the details and all the background work is stellar (the eyes, the skulls give this some very cool "dark" ambiance), and I particularly love the choice of "counter" (versus that darker tone) imagery with the girl's pink dress and stuffed unicorn. I was already sold on this cover based on the images I had seen of it (scans as well as the published covers), but I can't emphasize enough how much this piece shines in hand, it is so much better than I expected, I was totally floored. The scans and published images don't give this piece it's proper justice, the moment I had it unboxed and started looking it over, I felt even more grateful to have acquired this one, it is simply a visual delight.Social/Sharing |

Phenomenally brilliant composition! I love asbsolutely every single thing about this piece (except the fact that it's not mine, LOL). Could study this for hours and hours and still not be able to take everything in. I don't really pay attention to these big art drops, but this piece makes me wish I had. And I don't know what the other piece you missed out on, but even without seeing it, I think you got the better of the two, by far.

The more I've thought about it since I've had this in hand, the more I agree with the sentiment that I got the better piece. I really liked the other one, but this one exceeded my expectations.

Sook is one of the best artists working today, and you landed one heckuva awesome cover by him. Congrats!

Sook fills the image with details and still keeps it from becoming muddied or confusing.

Beautiful cover! Love all the detail Sook manages to squeeze in without making it look overly busy. Love how he creates a real sense of place here. Great score!

Up there with the classiest presentations of Sandman who took themes of magic and mysticism to a new level of comics as high literature. Layered with levels of meaning and symbolism, Sook's presentation weaves them in a profound statement within this cover.

I think you beat me to it by 1 minute (and it didn't go fast like some of the other pieces ;).
Just a gorgeous cover with so much going on in terms of composition.
Congrats.

If I beat you by a minute then you were slugging along worse than me LOL. I was really late to the drop party (by art drop time standards) and was beyond ecstatic that this was still there.

Sook is great. Love the Magic Order (but haven't read beyond issue one of vol2) and love love love Cordelia.
This was by far the best piece and had I remembered to check the drop I'd have gone straight for this one. No hesitation!
Congratulations!!!!
