Description

Dessinateur ind�pendant, Basil Wolverton, dont la famille s'est agrandie l'ann�e pr�c�dente, envoie en f�vrier 1949 au magazine "Life" une s�rie de 16 dessins.

Le titre est "The shapes of things to come". Pour la 1�re fois, il y repr�sente des personnages entiers � l'inverse de ses habituels visages aux cheveux spaghettis.

Malheureusement, "Life" ne publiera pas ces dessins. Il r�cup�rera les originaux et les proposera � d'autres journaux ("The New Yorker", "Esquire" et "Collier's") sans succ�s.

Il faudra attendre la parution du livre "Wovertoons" sur ce g�nial artiste en 1989 pour les voir publi�s.

Greg SADOWSKI a entam� un extraordinaire travail de chronologie de l'oeuvre de WOLVERTON dont 2 tomes sont d�j� parus chez Fantagraphics. A lire absolument pour d�couvrir un g�nie du dessin bien avant Robert CRUMB.

Great illustrator of madness and body horror done to show the grotesque in a beautiful manner. It celebrated absurdist thinking that pushed boundaries and opened up more space to accept the imaginative and the weird.
