DescriptionHarlan Draka's sensitivity to vampires causes him to WHOOOSH back to a battle in Roman times: “Master, the imperial legions are besieging Kogaionon, the sacred mountain.” “So what? Their ranks will once again crash against the walls of Sarmizegetusa. The Dacian king can sleep soundly.” “But at their head is an invincible leader, master. It is he who recovered the banners of the legions of Cornelius Fuscus.” “The 'wolves' of Fuscus. The legion Rea Silvia, which I personally destroyed many years ago.” “It is said that this leader of Fuscus is here to avenge him and also... it is whispered that he belongs to your lineage, master.” “His name!” “General Draco!” “Vlatna!” “What is the matter with you?” “I felt Vlatna speaking in my mind. But it was something that happened in the distant past. I see... I see...” Cornelius Fuscus was a Roman general in the days of Vespasian and Domitian. His legion was destroyed by the Dacians, and the standard lost. This is why it is significant that “General Draco” (Harlan’s father Draka) was able to recover the banners of the fallen legion. Apparently Vlatna was on the other side of the battle, leading the forces of King Decebalus of Dacia in modern Serbia. This is how Vlatna seized this castle, previously owned by Draka. that half splash cut to a Roman battle scene is pretty epic!

What a flashback! It just took one big panel, but the trauma lingers on like a flickering flame onto the next page. It doesn't even have rounded panel corners.

Correct, which shows that Harlan is experiencing the past in "real time," as opposed to a flashback that's being narrated, or a scene that only readers know about.
