DescriptionI am strictly a published OA collector. I have heard of the countless commission request horror stories in our hobby, but I don't know, curiosity, a dash of excitement of the unknown, the awesomeness of something personal, knowing what I wanted and finding the artist who's style I knew was perfect, I jumped in the deep end.My wife said I am a masochist and was prob hoping things went south so I would have someone new to argue with. What does she know?! After the usually back and forth on baby names, we finally agreed & named our newborn son Milo. My inspiration for the suggestion came from reading the Phantom Tollbooth in my youth. I also introduced my wife to the book, (she) having never heard of it, was curious to check it out. She loved it. I thought what a great subject to gift him in the form of a painting that he can grow up with and have forever. Enter Bill Carman. I stumbled upon his work via the CGC boards. I forget what the thread argument of the day was but hey, it introduced me to him. I knew instantly that his style would be perfect for this subject matter. Bill happily accepted. Only did I find out that he was unfamiliar w the book after I gave my 1st deposit. Ha! Anyhow, he read the book and being an extremely gifted creator, immediately went to work. I gave Bill cart blanche to do what he wanted. I said Phantom Tollbooth - go! Whatever you wanna do. He nailed it, from Milo, to the dog and even yes Humbug! I was hoping he included that character. I love the 57 Chevy they are riding. Bill littered the painting with vitals of Milo's birth. I love finding something new each and every day. Overall it was a very good experience. That being said. I am prob retired from commission. Better to go out being 1-1 and batting 1000. Social/Sharing |

Very nice, Jimmy! I like the textures done via color and how stylized it is. And very cool that your newborn son prompted it...I mean, if there was something that could push you to get a commission, right?! Congrats!

The only thing better than a great piece of art is a great story behind it! This is a wild pairing.
