From May 1991.

Last year I picked up two pre-show commissions and a couple of Gerhard's pre-done pieces. This year, one of my goals for OAX was to get a published Gerhard piece. When the doors opened, I went straight to his table. There were a few people in front of me. I was just hoping he didn't sell out before I got to table. When it was my turn to look at his portfolio, I found this cover and just loved the moodiness of it. I ended up buying it and an interior.

The following day I added another interior page and a Cerebus sketch to my haul for the weekend. As always, it was great to talk to Gerhard and his wife. Hopefully they will return again next year!

This is a fantastic piece of art. The delicate hatching and muted colors capture the moodiness and solemnity of the scene.

Has a great illustration look that could be used for a cover for the New Yorker. It has an austere repressed English high society feel. There are two lights on for people who would rather spend their sleepless night alone than together.
