Description

Leo Aikman was a columnist and humorist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, known for his insightful and often witty commentary on life, politics, and culture. His writings frequently emphasized hard work, responsibility, and the changing American experience, making him a respected voice in Southern journalism. Aikman’s wisdom and humor live on through his quotable sayings, including: "Blessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime and too sleepy to worry at night."

Meanwhile, another essential piece of Atlanta’s cultural and historical identity is the Atlanta Cyclorama, which housed the massive panoramic painting The Battle of Atlanta, originally created in the 1880s. This cylindrical artwork provided a 360-degree immersive perspective of the Civil War battle, shaping how the war was remembered in the South. Initially located in Grant Park, the painting and museum were relocated and restored at the Atlanta History Center in 2019, where they are now displayed with expanded historical context on the Civil War, slavery, and public memory. The Cyclorama remains significant as one of the largest oil paintings in the world, preserving a unique visual account of Atlanta’s wartime history.
