DescriptionFebruary 6, 1974, the U.S. trucking industry was facing major disruptions due to a nationwide truckers' strike protesting high diesel fuel prices. The strike led to food shortages, with some supermarket chains forced to airlift meat as deliveries stalled. Violence also erupted, including a dynamite attack on a Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge and multiple shootings linked to the protests.Independent truckers were demanding a freeze on diesel fuel prices, and while the government announced a rollback, many drivers insisted the freeze remain indefinitely. The strike had ripple effects, causing auto plant layoffs due to parts shortages and widespread panic buying. Social/Sharing |
