Description

Back in 1977, when Jimmy Carter rolled into the White House, he looked at America’s gas-guzzling ways and said, “Y’all, we’ve got a problem.” We were neck-deep in foreign oil, and he knew that wasn’t gonna end well.

So Jimmy laid out a big plan to fix it—cut back on oil use, save energy, tax the big oil companies. He even started the Department of Energy to wrangle it all in.

Well, the oil companies didn’t take too kindly to that. They thought Jimmy was meddling too much and didn’t understand how the oil business worked. They fought him tooth and nail in Washington, and by the time the dust settled, his energy plan had been picked apart pretty good.
