Description

Hand signed copy of "Liberty Mourns", a vintage print by Pulitzer Prize winner Mike Luckovich. This print measures approximately 24”L x 18”H. Hand signed by the artist many years ago. Signed copies of this famous print are very difficult to find.

The cartoon titled "Liberty Mourns" by Mike Luckovich, published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on September 12, 2001, is a powerful and emotional response to the September 11 terrorist attacks. It portrays the Statue of Liberty with a grief-stricken expression, tears falling from her eyes as she looks out at the horrifying scene of the Twin Towers being struck by planes—an image reflected in her wide, sorrowful eyes. The Statue of Liberty, long a symbol of American freedom, democracy, and resilience, is shown mourning, capturing the nation's collective heartbreak. The blue background adds to the somber mood, emphasizing the weight of the tragedy. This cartoon became one of the most iconic visual representations of 9/11, resonating with viewers across the country for its emotional depth and poignant symbolism.

Mike Luckovich authorized a licensed offset lithograph version of the cartoon reproduced in 2001.

Seller Comment:
I went to an estate sale of someone who worked for the Atlanta Journal. I was able to purchase 2 of these, both signed. The estate had a lot of unique AJC items, such as this signed print.

That was a quick trunaround with being able to process what happened and in 9/12, the whole world was different.
