Description11 x 17Quick break from all the Love and Rockets...Huge fan of Zu Orzu and all her recent cover work. I've had my eye on her for a while but have been waiting for the right one that's available. I always admired this piece on CAF and lo and behold it popped up on CAF Live. Though I couldn't get a deal done, thankfully my friend Andy scooped it up and was willing to pass it along to me. I find Zu's faces so aesthetically appealing along with just her general themes and composition. This is a cover study and of course I'd love to have the cover but the added pencil/line work due to its prelim nature really makes the figure pop. Maybe my comic art sensibilities attract me to those black lines. Great textures and Erica's green eyes are still very much in place. Love the piece and hope to own more. Thanks my good bud, Andy. Gorgeous "prelim"! I love the looseness of the brush strokes and lines which lends a certain degree of energy and spontaneity to the piece. Congrats on this one!

I really enjoy the juxtapositioning element of images like this. Whether it's a b&w subject againts a color background, or an in-color subject against a black/white/neutral background. I love that sense of the character seeming to be out of place, or existing on a different plane of reality. Plus, of course, it almost always makes for a very dramatic visual. Hard to imagine the final cover being any better than this stunning prelim.

Swirly brushwork and how it allows some of the different color layers underneath show through adds to the depth and energy all around Erica. Her figure gets a nice tonal flavor and stands out by being still and calm amidst the chaos around her.

I love her work so much - congrats on the beautiful piece. She does have a way with giving her characters hypnotic eyes, I love it

Wow, Jason - another stunner. I much prefer this prelim to the finished cover, with all the subtle shadings and textures used on the BEAUTIFULLY rendered central figure presenting themselves in a more compelling fashion (thanks to those awesome vapor-like / dreamlike backgrounds, and the colors selected for them). Spectacular piece, Jason - congrats!
