DescriptionDEATH OF THE ENDLESS: HANDS ALL OVERBy Senescence A3, Ink on illustration board Not for Sale I was introduced to Senescence by my friend Mike (NSN Art), who has been acquiring his color pencil pieces for a while. I knew I was going to get a Death of the Endless commission, and when I saw some black and white work on his Instagram account I decided that the first commission would not be color. I don't know who his model is, but she stood-in great for Death. I don't mean to be morbid, but I see a little bit of Michelle Trachtenberg —who had just recently passed away (and far too young) and a bit of India Eisley, who bears a strong resemblance to her mother, Olivia Hussey, who had also recently died. Beautiful women, all. It's always interesting to see how different artists interpret the two most-signature accoutrements of Death's look: the eye make-up, and the anhk. I like both here, especially the nouveau clasps amd loop chain on the ankh. The technique is worth explaining. Senescence uses Copic and Bron markers for the larger areas of black. Using just the brush tips, he lays down multiple layers of small, circular motions rather than strokes. This enables solid coverage that looks super flat. Then for the smaller details he uses felt tip pens of differing sizes and a white Gelly roll pen for highlights. This is a piece that benefits from viewing through a magnifying glass, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Social/Sharing |

Seeing that piece you got framed in Vegas made a commission inevitable. I'm going to have to send him a packing FAQ video for future reference, but the work can't be beat.

Excellent piece. I admired the colored pieces that Mike had posted in the past by this artist, and also this one when I first saw it. Nice to see it with an even higher rez scan to appreciate those details zoomed in. I had also thought the face resembled Michelle Trachtenberg (sad how young she passed). Congrats on the great commission result!

I've already contacted him about the next commission, which will be a color piece. The skill and technique is off the charts!

I certainly love the pieces Mike had acquired, as they show a very high level of artistry. As my personal preference is always for black and white illustration however, this one is just as phenomenal! Absolutely love it, especially the facial rendering as well as the hands and skulls!

Rubén, it was your intense disatisfaction with the camera-phone shots of this (followed by Jeff, Mikhail, and Tatiana's CAF+ episode on archiving) that pushed me toward purchasing an A3 scanner. And thanks for that! I have a 600dpi flatbed scan of this in addition to the hi-res web image here.

Well, you're very welcome, pal! Let's be honest, this is a great quality scan, which is precisely what allows us to see just how awesome the art is! I'm glad you came over to the light side. Kavi also rescanned his entire collection when he realized how nice the images looked after also getting himself a scanner I recommended. I can't tell you enough just how much this piece calls to me! Damn.....

I can practically smell "Obsession by Calvin Klein" with the faint hint of clove cigarettes behind it.
