DescriptionDeath of the Endless (Mia by Mia)By Mia Araujo Based on a photograph by Rae Threat Graphite on illustration board 11 x 17 in. Not for Sale Mia Araujo is an award-winning, published author and illustrator as well as an in-demand gallery artist. When I was the director at La Luz de Jesus, I looked for any opportunity to include her artwork in whatever exhibition I could, but timing and non-competition policies at her representing gallery prevented any such occasion for more than a decade. Last year, I saw on her Instagram post that she was accepting commissions. This is the first time to my knowledge that she has ever done so, and I spared no time in reaching out to inquire about pricing and book a portrait. Since she doesn't accept proposals for copyrighted characters, I had to make sure this piece would fall within her acceptable parameters, we established that it does —since it is primarily a portrait. The subject is my longtime friend, former co-worker, and sister-from-another-mister, Mia Matsumiya, a 4'9" American-born Japanese tour-de-force who is best known as either the violinist of the band Kayodot, or as host of the Perv Magnet instagram account which publicly exposed the incredibly inappropriate messages she and her followers were receiving online. She has also been the muse for a number of fine artists and photographers: Ed Fox, Karen Hsiao, Zoe Lacchei, Danni Shinya Luo, David Mack, Soey Milk, Christine Wu, and Rae Threat, to name but a few. One of Rae's portraits served as the inspiration for this commission (and a couple of sketchcards by Alex Schwafel). The idea of a Mia portrait by another Mia struck me as a fun concept. I had her reverse the original photo to expose the right eye, which is the correct eye for Death's signature Egyptian spiral. Image included for reference. I've been angry and mad at La Luz de Jesus
I can't count artwork lines that I'm told you you're through
And Araujo, when you slam the door
I think you know that you won't be decade too long
You know Matt I'm not that strong
Just one look and I can hear a bell ring
One more look and I forget everything, whoa
Matsumiya, here I go again
My, my, how can I resist you?
Matsumiya, does it show again?
My, my, just how much I've missed you?

Two Mia's are better than one! A lovely illustration and a unique take on the character.
