Filipino artist,
Celso Mazine, gifted this painting to me as an add to the commissions I booked recently. You can see the first of them in the last post (and a preview of all in the next tile �the as yet unposted one will be getting its own post soon). As you can see in comparing to the commissions, the visual reference and technique is completely different. That's because this is a character study done as a warm-up; a practice piece.

It's rare to see this part of the process, and a treat when each is so obviously different. That's just one of the reasons why I'm a fan of "deep collecting," which is the method of getting beyond checklist buying to acquire more than one piece from an artist. The second tile shows a full series of images done at about the same time, all in their own unique style. In the preliminary process Celso provided so many interesting thumbnail choices that I couldn't narrow my selection to one and opted for two �but happily wound-up with three. I will assuredly return for more, and recommend him wholeheartedly for anyone seeking a commission.

Pretty cool painted study of the character as a precursor to both full commissions! To get a totally different type of art piece/style for a bonus gift along with the commissions themselves is top notch customer service as well. Good to see.

It just makes sense that this had to go along with the finished piece if Mazine is not known as selling Death pieces. It's very finished in itself by Sandman artwork standards that tends to leave more to the imagination.

Damn, dude! I just assumed this was another of the finished commissions, not "just" a painting study that was the freebie that was thrown in. This is gorgeous!
